Arts, live music festivals on tap Labor Day weekend in Bloomington

Labor Day weekend in Bloomington will be filled with special events. Major events include an art festival, a live music festival and an Indiana University football game.

On Aug. 31, the weekend starts off with local food and craft beer, and a live outdoor performance by Okkervil River at 6 p.m. as part of the Hillbilly Haiku festival at the Upland Brewery Company. Supporting acts are Barbecue James and White Lightning Boys. The Hillbilly Haiku raises money for Sycamore Land Trust and celebrates music, the community and the natural beauty of southern Indiana.

The festivities keep going with the 36th annual Fourth Street Festival of the Arts and Crafts on Sept. 1-2. Vendors from around the region, including Bloomington artists, will have their work on display and for purchase. At the Fourth Street Festival, experience arts, crafts, live music, spoken word performances and the diverse restaurants of Bloomington.

On Sept. 1, Indiana University football’s 2012 season kicks off against Indiana State for the first home game at 8 p.m.
