Parke County artist part of Halcyon show

TERRE HAUTE — Another Parke County artist will display creative works in The Halcyon Art Gallery on South Seventh Street in Terre Haute.

Marsha Garrison, water colorist from Rockville, will offer her new adventure into creativity starting today, during First Friday events downtown.

Garrison’s “Assemblages” will be on display through November.

Many years ago, Garrison became a collector of bits and pieces of everyday life, a key with no purpose, a single earring, a theater ticket, pieces of broken pottery or a rock. She has now discovered that they go nicely together in unusual inspired works of art. Instead of merely collecting these unusual bits of flotsam, she now is inspired to begin with one piece, be it a fish gig, a rusted toy army truck or a catchy piece, even old oil cans.

“I think of these creations as a joining together of unrelated odd pieces of discarded objects,” Garrison says of her work. “When they begin to take on a character of their own, I can then select a title that suggests an idea or a sort of story. They are whimsy. My intent is to bring a smile to the viewer.”

The title of the show is “Re-Purpose.” An opening reception is at 7 p.m. today.
