River City Art Association announces winners of annual show

TERRE HAUTE — The theme of the Fourth Annual Art Show of the River City Art Association Inc. was “Scouting for Art.” The event was Aug. 11 at the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana building at Fairbanks Park.

Intarsia (wood inlay) artist-in-residence Debbie Anderson created art packets consisting of 28 aspen sections, seven-eighths inches thick, of a hummingbird, two flowers, a leaf, backboard, three different colors of paint and a brush.

The Girl Scouts painted each section, including all sides of each piece, glued them together and to the backboard. They learned the importance of water application to each dry piece of wood before painting, to paint with care and to keep each stroke consistent and smooth. They were able to apply and spread the correct amount of glue, and approximate glue drying time so that every piece would fit together correctly.

Retired Terre Haute South Vigo High School art teacher Rod Bradfield judged the River City show in four categories: ink/pencil/pastel; watercolor/oil/acrylic; mixed media/wood/other and photography/digital art. Results follow.
