Gallery on Main in Sullivan to feature Indiana photographer

SULLIVAN — The Vision by Indiana photographer R.P. Marheine will be featured at the Gallery on Main from Feb. 12-27 at 101 S. Main in Sullivan.

Richard Marheine is a freelance and art photographer currently living in Corydon. Best known for his creative and innovative art photos, Marheine has been an extremely popular artist at the Gallery.

In an interview, Marheine stated, “When vision and technique find a common ground, art is created.

“In 2002, I took a photography class as an elective in the art program at Ball State University. I started to learn the mechanical and chemical process involved in taking great photos and fell in love. At some point along the way, I found it to be the creative outlet that I had been seeking for so long. Still using the fundamentals learned in those courses, I added to that the freedom of digital photography.

“The camera constrains in space, in color, in details, yet I strive to create a photography that crosses these perceived boundaries of the medium. Through the use of wide angles, vivid colors, and striking detail, I hope to draw the viewer into the photo.

“In the course of the last year, I have started to use a process called high dynamic range imagery, HDR for short.

“The vivid, high-contrast and sometimes surreal-looking images transform even the most common of scenes into a work that pulls the viewer’s eye to the details often overlooked.

“The places I have seen and experience live in my work. As a photographer, I tend to look at the world a little differently. Therefore every photo is an attempt to express my vision of the world. These photographs might be something you have seen every day or someplace you have never been, but I strive to bring you a unique perspective.”

The exhibition of Vision starts with an artist’s reception from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 12 and from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 13. These receptions and the continuing exhibit are open to the public. The Gallery on Main is open from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
