River City to feature photographer Marty Jones

TERRE HAUTE — River City Art Association and the Vigo County Public Library will feature the photography of artist Marty Jones for the month of August. The library is at Seventh and Poplar streets in downtown Terre Haute.

Jones has been photographing nature and wildlife for more than 40 years.

In 2004 he began to focus specifically on birds. As of August 2012 he had photographed 307 species in Indiana. Most of these birds were found and photographed in the Terre Haute area.

The goal of Jones’ bird photography is to inspire people to appreciate nature by becoming more aware of that which is easily overlooked and by transforming the mundane into a more exciting, contemplative and artistic interpretation.

While Jones’ primary aim is to create art with his photography, he also strives to document birds with an eye toward conservation and education. This has led him to volunteer his time and photographic skills with several local and national groups such as the Wabash Valley and Indiana Audubon Society, Ouabache Land Conservancy and the Nature Conservancy.

Several of Jones’ bird photos have been published in print and electronic media and are for sale. Visit www.indianajones.smugmug.com to see all the birds he has photographed.
