Putnam County Playhouse presents ‘Man of La Mancha’
The 2009 season of Putnam County Playhouse in Greencastle continues with a production of the musical “Man of La Mancha.” It will be onstage today, Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday through Aug. 15. Sunday is a 3 p.m. matinee. All other performances are at 8 p.m. All tickets are $9. The box office is open Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and can be reached by calling (765) 653-5880. Seats are available for all performances, but reservations are recommended. The Sunday afternoon performance has the greatest seating availability.
The production is sponsored by Duke Energy Foundation.
“Man of La Mancha” is a Tony Award-winning musical written by Dale Wasserman, with lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh. When poet Miguel de Cervantes and his friend Sancho Panza are jailed in 16th-century Spain, Cervantes tells the story of his character Don Quixote to escape punishment. Songs from the score include “The Impossible Dream,” “Dulcinea” and “I, Don Quixote.”
Ric McFadden is in the leading role of Cervantes and also takes on the guise of Don Quixote. Jim Poor returns to the PCPH stage as his squire, Sancho. Their fellow prisoners join in the charade, taking parts in Quixote’s play as he presents his defense. Included are Caroline Good as Aldonza, the kitchen maid; Chris Wurster as Dr. Carrasco; and Kenny Buchanan as the Padre. Featured roles will be played by Jim Rambo, Sandi Rossok, Katie Clark, Kyla Scheuermann and Shelly McFadden.
Playing the rough muleteers and guards are T.J. Tincher, Don Wilson, Timothy Stiles, Tyler Benware, Pete Edberg and Erik Krag. Also featured are Alixandra Green and Alex Briones.
The show is being directed by Jack Randall Earles. Vocal musical direction is by Ric McFadden and musical direction is by Marilyn Burdsall. The pit will include Burdsall on piano, Lynne Tweedie on synthesizer, Drew Brattain on bass guitar and Alex Cole on percussion. Production stage manager is Tyson Myrick.
Set and lighting design is by Poor and Earles, with additional painting and design by Linda Gjesvold. Technical direction is by Bryan Schroeder. He is assisted by Kristen Burger. Lightboard operator is Tiarra Phillips, and the spotlight operator is Tony Canaday. Assisting Myrick backstage is Roxanne Wheeler.
Those attending the show will also be among the first to hear the announcement of the shows chosen for the 2010 season.

River City Art Association exhibit opens in Palestine
A River City Art Association exhibit opens July 31 at the Palestine Art Center, 110 S. Main Street in Palestine, Ill., with a reception at 4:30 p.m. CDT. The show will run through Aug. 28. In September, there will be a photography exhibition sponsored by The Palestine Development Group.

Associate Members show at Art Gallery in Rockville
Through Aug. 1, associate members of the Covered Bridge Art Association will have their work on display. Those participating are from throughout the Wabash Valley, northern Illinois and Indiana, and Wisconsin. A reception for the artists will conclude the exhibit from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 1. Everyone is invited to enjoy the food and conversation with the artists.

River City Art Association artists exhibiting at Vigo County Public Library
Artists Linda Sikorski, Dave Gahimer and Kenny Vermillion are exhibiting at the Vigo County Library at Seventh and Poplar streets this month. Sikorski will display six paintings in the South Gallery. Gahimer will exhibit turned bowls that follow the designs of the Etruscans of ancient Italy. Etrusia, north of Rome, is present-day Tuscany. Vermillion will display his award-winning wood carvings.
