Todd Stokes’ artwork has a tendency to fall into two separate bodies of work — one that represents that “simple break” where we stop to notice, to realize what we are given, the natural world that we so often take for granted, and a second that celebrates the creative energy that brought it all together.
Trees have become a major part of Stokes’ subject matter. The artist believes that they are extremely important to our daily lives. It seems they protect and nurture our existence.
Stokes enjoys walking in the woods, soaking in everything: the sounds, the smells, the essence of natural beauty. This beauty gives him pause and helps him appreciate the gift we exist in.
During the experience of this pause, Stokes finds himself examining and analyzing what’s around him. He’s given energy from this and directed to crystallize the essence of it. There are basic shapes present in everything people see and make. These shapes are a language all their own. Stokes attempts to extract meaning and explore the process of creating, visualizing a fraction of his personal expression as if it becomes a portal or point of departure.
Stokes’ work can be seen this month at the Vigo County Public Library and any time at The Gold Frame, 509 E. Voorhees St., and throughout Heinl’s Flower Shop at 129 S. Seventh St. Stokes is an active member of River City Artist Association.

Scott Hinton’s photos take focus at Vigo Library
River City Art Association and the Vigo County Public Library are featuring photography by Scott Hinton throughout May in the library at Seventh and Poplar streets.
Hinton is a self-taught photographer and artist whose main focus is nature-inspired pictures and paintings. -
Halcyon Gallery featuring Terre Haute native Maraldo’s artwork

Indiana Artisan works on display at Clabber Girl
