Work reflects balance between subjects that are both peaceful, threatening

Gaslight Art Colony in Marshall, Ill., will show the work of Vickie Marsango beginning with an artist’s reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 21. The show can be viewed during regular gallery hours through May 12.

As a child, Marsango, was an artist. Her second-grade teacher noticed an interest in drawing, and asked her to paint on the class easel. In high school, she was art club president, and was awarded an art scholarship presented by the local Women’s Club to attend Allerton Art School of Monticello, Ill.

She has received formal training from colleges and universities in Illinois and California; however, she considers herself a self-taught artist.

Her work shows as if it were created by several artists, as she has developed many styles by experimenting with unconventional techniques. As an artist and art instructor at the Vero Beach Museum of Art in Vero Beach, Fla., the creative process was the focus.

The unleashing of creativity, meshed together with elements of design, color theory and intuitive painting, create abstract works fused with dynamic personal ambiance. Many works reflect a balance between what is peaceful and yet threatening, as a vast ocean would appear to a viewer standing on shore. Beyond the pictorial tradition of painting, Marsango works with oils, acrylics, mixed media materials and encaustics. Much of her work has been sold to collectors, private and corporate, in the United States and abroad, via the Internet and gallery and museum exhibitions.

“Creative energy has a message while painting provides a voice,” Marsango said. “My work has evolved by experimenting with unconventional techniques. Each painting is a journey into the unknown; guided by intuition and spontaneity. At the final destination of each unplanned piece, an image and/or profound meaning appears to greet me.”

Gaslight Art Colony is in downtown Marshall at 516 Archer Ave., and can be contacted at (217) 808-2115, at www.gaslightartcolony.com and on Facebook at Gaslight Art Colony.
