Arts Illiana announces the opening reception for the Summer Art Collection presented by AP&S; Clinic from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
The opening reception is an important preview for the publics’ first viewing of a remarkable art collection. Jon Robeson, executive director of Arts Illiana, believes everybody will enjoy the cultural and social event due to the uniqueness of the art.
“We will be unveiling a collection that is truly representative of the best visual art in the Wabash Valley,” Robeson said.
One particular work of art scheduled for display is a portrait of the late President Lyndon B. Johnson by Neil Garrison. The piece titled the “Johnson Tapes” is a meticulous composite of electrical tape, scotch tape, duct tape, and packing tape that assembles as a portrait of the 36th president.
Other pieces scheduled for display at the opening reception include sculpture, pottery, jewelry, paintings and photography.
The selected juror for the collection is Bill Wolfe, a recognized sculptor and painter. The juror serves as a resident expert who decides what artwork is suitable for the collection.
“This is one of the strongest shows, with a varied range of mediums, that Arts Illiana has hosted in some time,” Wolfe said. “The amount of creative energy and talent displayed by our new artists in this collection is extraordinary.”
The Summer Collection will be on display until Sept. 8 in Arts Illiana at 23 N. Sixth St.
