4-H faces from the Vigo County Fair
Things are going well for 4-H at the 2009 Vigo County Fair. Participation-wise, Lana Frazier said 4-H’ers are swamping the grounds. “We’ve hit 1,000 this year, which is a thrill,” she said, noting that the last two years’ participation numbers ranged from 700 to 800. “The number of third-graders is a record number,” she said. Total participation numbers were still being calculated as entries were being delivered Saturday, but overall, Frazier said younger children are becoming more active in 4-H than in years past. “I feel like we missed a whole generation,” she said, explaining that the swing is heading back in favor of 4-H. With a strong after-school program and a number of public school classes banding together to create projects ranging from swine and sewing to pets, 4-H can make a strong case for providing enrichment programs.
