Anniversaries: Feb. 20, 2011

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Secondino

Sue and Pete Secondino of south Shirkieville will celebrate 54 years of marriage on Feb. 23, 2011.

Sue, the daughter of Max and Marguerite Lenderman, and Pete, the son of John and Mary Secondino, were married Feb. 23, 1957, at Sacred Heart Church in Clinton.

In December 1957, Sue and Pete showed a Hereford steer, “Honeymoon,” winning Grand Champion at the International Live Stock Show and Exposition in Chicago, which sold to Arthur Godfrey, the famous radio/TV personality of that era, for the record price of $30 per pound.

The proceeds from the sale helped Sue and Pete purchase the Kate and John Hollingsworth homeplace and surrounding acreage from their grandson and his wife (Marvella and Birch E. Bayh II) in 1958.

The Secondinos have two daughters and four grandchildren: daughter, Jame Krieger and husband Mark of Universal and their children, Anna and Peter; and daughter, Jody Crandell and husband Ronald of Paris, Ill., and their children, Maria and Preston.

It has been rumored that Pete is retired from farming, but does any farmer ever really do that? Sue is still cooking for 10 or more, or whoever shows up at the door.

Sue and Pete are planning a trip to the south … deck at their home when the weather permits. Friends are invited to stop by and enjoy the unrestricted view of their fields of dreams.

Mr. and Mrs. Terry Weatherman observed their 50th wedding anniversary Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, and were honored Feb. 19 with a card shower and a catered dinner at the First Christian Church in Altamont, Ill.

The couple were married Feb. 14, 1961, at Pilgrim Holiness Church in Terre Haute.

Mrs. Weatherman is the former Virginia Pearce.

The couple have four children, Terry John Weatherman, Cindy Murray and husband David, Bryan Weatherman and wife Sabrina, and David Weatherman, all of Altamont. They also have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Penningtons were married Feb. 23, 1951, in West Terre Haute.
