Pastor and Mrs. Richard J. (Joe) Dayhuff

Pastor and Mrs. Richard J. (Joe) Dayhuff will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 27, 2012.

Their children and their church family will host an open house from 4 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 15 in Rick’s Smokehouse at Terre Haute. Friends and relatives are invited. It is requested that gifts be omitted but cards are welcome.

The couple were married in Eighth Avenue Baptist Church at Terre Haute with the late Donald K. Edwards officiating.

Mrs. Dayhuff is the former Ada (Sue) Kable, daughter of the late Margaret and Jack Kable. Pastor Dayhuff is the son of the late Elias and Catherine Dayhuff. Sue has been employed in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for the past 28 years. Joe has been the pastor of Southside Baptist Church for 30 years. He is a retired painting contractor and school bus driver for St. Patrick School. He traveled for five years with the Singing Gardner Evangelistic Team out of Buchanan, Mich., serving as their evangelist and piano player and singing with their quartet.  

The couple have three children, Doug (Ruth) Dayhuff, Dan (Kim) Dayhuff and Margaret (Chuck) Brooks. They are the grandparents of Brian (Sara) Pullen; Christi, Kaitlyn, Abbie, Isaac and Cameron Dayhuff; and Catherine Washburn. On Aug. 18 they welcomed stepgrandchildren Michael, Katherine and Curtis Brooks into their family.  

The couple took an early anniversary trip with friends to Mackinac Island.



Mr. and Mrs. Howard Buntain

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Buntain of Terre Haute will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Dec. 4, 2012.

Mr. and Mrs. Buntain were married Dec. 4, 1942, in Clinton.

Mrs. Buntain, the former Virginia Bozarth, retired from General Telephone Co. as a business account representative after 28 years of service.

Howard was a member of Teamsters Union, Local 144, in Terre Haute and retired as a truck driver for McDaniel Freight Line after 28 years of service.

The couple have two sons, the late Ronnie Buntain and Rex Buntain. They also have two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert ‘Bob’ Douglas

Robert and Charlotte Douglas will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, in the Torner Community Center at Deming Park in Terre Haute.

Family and friends are welcome. It is requested that gifts be omitted but cards are welcome.

The couple were married Dec. 19, 1962, in Pentecostal House of Prayer at Terre Haute by the Rev. Amos Bridwell.

Mrs. Douglas, the former Charlotte Tuttle, worked at MCL Cafeteria for several years and Westminster Village for five years before retiring. Bob is retired from Gartland Foundry.

They have three daughters, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.



Mr. and Mrs. Harold Plunkett

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Plunkett of Brazil will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the home of their daughter at 496 W. County Road 700 North, Brazil.

Friends and relatives are invited. It is requested that gifts be omitted but cards are welcome and may be sent to 104 Charles B. Hall St., Brazil, IN 47834.

The Plunketts were married Dec. 8, 1942, in Lewistown, Mont.

Mrs. Plunkett, the former Betty Snyder, is a homemaker.

Mr. Plunkett served in World War II as a radio operator and ball turret gunner on the B17. He retired in 1982 from the FAA Flight Service Dept. at Hulman Field.

The couple also farmed and owned the Center Point Field Mill for many years.

Hosts for the celebration will be the couple’s three daughters, Sharon Mishler, Debbie Brown and Peggy Gill. They also have eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.



Mr. and Mrs. Morris E. Harkes

Ada Harbrueger and Morrie E. Harkes of Terre Haute were married Dec. 8, 1940, and will celebrate their 72nd anniversary Dec. 8, 2012.

They lived in many U.S. cities due to Mr. Harkes’s career in the retail business. He retired in 1972 from True Value Hardware and after 60 years away, decided it was time to come “Back Home Again in Indiana” in 2001.

He served with the Marine Corps during World War II, most of his five years in the South Pacific.

They have two daughters, Elizabeth Terrill and husband Ed of Cincinnati, and Christine Barberry of Terre Haute. They also have three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
